TWAT

I put my phone in the washing machine....
I left it in Portsmouth to dry off, so I would like to put in a quick prayer to the God of mobile phones -
"Please don't deprive me of a phone again, I rather like it, and it's too much of a hassle to buy a new one right now :(
Thanks for listening, your humble servant, Linda."

Fresher's Week

Well this week sees Fresher's week at the University of Surrey...Much fun and laughter to be had by all.
I took the day off work on Wednesday to go to the Fresher's fayre, and to help out on the St John Ambulance stand and to do first aid for the event. I had a great time, despite the miserable British weather. It was a great chance to catch up with some friends who aren't on placement, and also to meet some new bright eyed bushy tailed fresher's. It's also a great oppotunity to shout at huge crowds, and to try and out-shout the crys of the cheerleading stand :P
Byebye voice, it was nice while it lasted!
Also returned back to the G.town on Friday for some more first aid fun at the union. Friday night was a 'Flirt' themed night - School Disco - with special guest Dave Benson Phillips, from "Get Your Own Back." I beleive there was gunging going on upstairs on the stage, with victims such as the newly-appointed union president.
Ha Ha Ha.
So after that very long night, finishing at 0400, the next duty was River Sports Day at 1230 on Saturday. Luckily the weather was nice, so we just sat back and relaxed down by the locks in in sunny Guildford and watched random students battle it out in the water, getting very wet and muddy in the river (that was only a few inches thick...eeeeek).
Straight from that I headed off to a friends house, for a birthday celebration. I had yummy yummy carrot cake, and self-made pizza :D
And now, 0045 Sunday morning I sit in the Union, still, on another duty (Tease - The LGBT night) and wait till the happy time (0300) when I can head off back to a friend's house to sleep.
Unfortunately I have an early rise tomorrow, so I can be in Portsmouth for another duty at 1100 (does this surprize you at all???).
This year's Fresher's week duties doesn't even compare to last year's, which consisted of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (meeting and duty), Wednesday (Fayre and Duty), Friday, All day Saturday and all day Sunday. And I made all five 9am lectures all week. And had some very interesting conversations, which I have luckily managed to avoid this year also (although it came close :P).

Opinions Please

OK, I just had a conversation that made me think back to those days in first year, walking home from the union or sitting in roots of an evening...
Are we entering a new dark age?
Will science eventually be trodden into the dirt and passed off as a bad idea?
Let me know what you think?

Wii and Wine

A very good combination...
I had a bad week last week, I have a cold, so I could hardly breathe or talk or do anything really...
And I feel the same way today, except the arm ache isn't viral related...
I have a weekend-related injury...
Friday night I went to band again, and played an intense game of nun bowling with the kids (I'm such a great influence). Then in the morning, I had  struggle at the bank, a great shopping trip, a nice hair cut (mucho needed) and the nicest peach and mango smoothie.
Then
To top it off...
I BOUGHT A WII....WOOP
Then drank wine and played it!
Was truely a great moment in history, and a great top off to the weekend (along with seeing my family and James the following day)
So now, after a long day at work, I sit watching scrubs, missing my essex-based wii-ness, and drinking medicine (red wine).

The Tree of Brain

The long awaited weekend finally dawned, and off to the train station I went. This time with a very uneventful taxi ride. Luckily.
Off to London I went, for the mighty return to the Punch and Judy pub in Covent Garden, where I had the misfortune of some bastard stealing my bag the last time I was there. Its a lot more lively on a Friday night, and my boyfriend and I got there just before they stopped selling food. As we sat down, I noticed that there was a difference this time. Hooks had been installed under the tables, and there are signs up on the wall saying "hold on to your bags"
YEY... I made a difference :D (well that's what I like to think anyway)
After London I went back to my Boyfriends house in Essex. After spending a day pottering around town, we headed off to Colchester for a spot of Quasar and Rollerblading. Woop boys night out! I came last in the quasar (but was most accurate) and I was surprized how quickly I picked up rollerblading :D. Me...excersizing! Haha....
Anyway, I had a great weekend, made some great cake, got to spend time with my boyf and his family and had some great food :)
Also learnt how to play crib, but spent a considerable amount of time on a rail replacement bus coming home :(

Same Differences

I've noticed sooo many differences between Essex, Surrey and Hampshire. I'm always commenting on the differences between how flat the ground is, the amount of traffic, the water, and the list goes on and on.
But one similarity struck me this morning, and it's one that made me smile.
One thing that I will never forget is when I used to get the bus into Uni last year. The number 26/27...ahh the memories...Every morning the bus was packed, and we had to squeeze onto the front next to the driver. Only the nice drivers used to stop and let us on!
But
There was this one...huuuge woman, who took up 2 seats, and had a pram with a screaming baby along with about 3 or 4 kids. These kids would run up and down the bus, and she would just scream constantly at them "COOONNNNAAAAAA GGEEEETTT EEEERRRREEE NNNNAAAAAAA"
This morning i'm proud to say there is an identical fat woman in Portsmouth! Made me feel like home.
"JJJJJOOOORRRRDDAAAAAANNNN SSSIIITTT DDDAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN"
*sigh*

Return to the G.town!

An account of my Friday night visit to the town of G*!
After a rush home from work, a rushed change of clothes and a phone call to a certain Portsmouth cab company, I ran from my doorstep to the cab to avoid as much of the downpour as possible.
About halfway through the journey the cab driver, who I have named Tim for blogging purposes, suddenly screamed out...

Tim - "F*******K, F******K, F******K, Oh my God, F*****K"
Me - "What?"
Tim - "F*****k, F****K [bashes stearing wheel]F****K"
Me - "WHAT????"
Tim - "F***K, THE F***KING CLUTCH HAS GONE!!! DON'T WORRY THOUGH, WE CAN MAKE IT!!!"
Me - "It's OK mate, just drop me here"
Tim - "WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME???"
Me - "Erm....Bad luck??"
Tim - "CRAP!!! THE BRAKE HAS GONE!!!"
Me - "WHAT???"
Tim - "OH....no....its ok...we have the brakes..."
Me - [grabs onto cab for life]

Needless to say he didn't get a tip.
So when I got onto the train, I was a little shaken up, but after an hours journey and 60-odd pages of "Eragon" I arrived in G.town, and walked to a friends house for lovely food, good company and general civilized socialising :D
After arriving back in Pompey, I was wandering home when I came across a girl, lying face down with her arms out, in the middle of the road. So I approached her...

Danger - none
Response - a little bit, not at first, but when I asked her to wave she lifted her arm. I could see she was wearing a necklace with her name on it, which she responded to better.
Airway, Breathing, etc. - Fine

She didn't appear to have any injuries and had an alcoholic vomit smell about her, so 3 guesses to why she was in the road.
Next thing I knew a people carrier pull up, crammed full of about 15-20 drunk women, dressed in very little on the way home from a night out. They got out the car and started to panic. My crowd control skills aren't great, especially in these conditions, so I got them to form a human chain across the road to stop the traffic, and to get them out of the way. I think collectively they rang for about 5 ambulances. I wasn't sure that this was the best thing, as the girl was starting to sober up and I was just going to take her home if she didn't have any other problems. But it's good to be sure, and have someone take proper obs.
So
When the ambulance turned up (just one, control caught onto the situation) the paramedics just fell about with laughter at the situation. They assess the girl, who has normal obs, but took her anyway.
The women seemed very appreciative.
"Want a lift home love...?"
"Let me buy you a couple of drinks...!"
"You should be a ambulance person you know...!"
After thanking them for their help, I declined a lift and drink and just walked home and went straight to bed.

Oh what an evening.

*Guildford...just in case you hadn't guessed ;p
