Just Round The Corner.

So I wake up this afternoon in the living room of a good friends house, with the sound of sirens. Living in Portsmouth, you get used to this, and kinda just block them out. Until I heard the sound of 3-4 choppers hovering over head.

This probably isn't usual.

So, for some reason, kept my phone very close to me and text round various Guildians to see if they knew what was going on.

Well,

Turned out to be just round the corner!
Whadd'ya know!

ARRR CAN I HAVE YE NUMBERRRR??

I think I impressed someone in Asda the other day.
Was buying some articles to wear at a pirate party (hat + sword and eye patch for £2.50ish, bargain).

The conversation went as follows:
Checkout guy : Pirate huh?
Me : Yeh, pirate party on Saturday.
Checkout guy : Personally I prefer Ninjas.
Conversation continues...
Me : So, I have to find a way of dressing up as a pirate who has ninja stealth??
Checkout guy : Yeh basically, would be much cooler. Anyway that'll be £10.59.
*Puts in PIN*
Checkout guy : Thanks for that. Couldn't have your number could I?
Me : Sorry, no, I'm with someone.

I have to say, that has to be one of the oddest conclusions to a quick shop at Asda I think I've ever experienced.

Anyway, this pirate costume has to be one of the better arty moments I've had recently.
Compare this to my snowman made out of crushed ice, my attempt at making a origami duck with no instructions, and decorating my PDO notebook.

I'm sure pictures will follow shortly....

Discovery of the Day

My friend Steph has a vast collection of music to entertain us on our journey to work every morning.
This morning - this bunch of musicians was on the playlist...

They do all kinds of covers!
Amazing...

Police Shoulders

During one of my duties this weekend, I noticed a lonely police man standing at the back of a crowd.
This was no normal policeman...
He had white rank slides on his shoulder. He also had a white patch on his right shoulder, on the front of his vest, and a white patch on his back, with what I presumed to be a call sign on.
What does all this white-ness mean?
Thoughts were crowd control/riot officer, drugs or bomb squad?
If anyone knows please post on here, google has failed me again :(

Community Service - YES PLEASE

Ok...
I was just watching some kind of soap, which my housemates had on, I think it was Home and Away, and some guy has just been in court.
For his crimes (from what I gather, he tried to murder his Dad or something), he was given 100 hours community service.
Now....
Ive done about 550 hours on duty and training with St John Ambulance this year so far (to be greatly increased this weekend).
Does this mean I could have tried to kill my Dad 5 and a half times in Australia and get off scott-free?
I think I'm living in the wrong country...

Another Crumb

I thought it was time to add a few more crumbs to the pile!

During my four days at the travellodge in Cambridge, I had a couple of showers. Not that this is an unusual thing for me to do, but it is relevant to the crumb.
When I got out the shower, I looked in the mirror. I don't know why I always do this, as I always find myself disappointed. The mirror is always steamed up. Always.
However, here I was in Cambridge, and what did I see? Myself staring back at me!
Ah how poetic!
How the heck did the travellodge manage to do that? Most of the mirror was steamy, like usual, very disappointing, but there was a convenient square of non-steamyness that was perfect for those after-shower grooming moments.
I was going to put a picture of it up, but by the time I was decent enough to take a picture, the steamyness had disappeared. Damn air conditioning.

There we go...weight off my mind...
:P

People Please!

Believe it or not...I'm not psychic, I don't read minds and I'm not a world class guesser.

If you want me to do something or be somewhere, you need to tell me!!!

The Weekend!

Yes...I lost my debit card... again.... second time in 3 months!
It's probably lying somewhere between Guildford Train Station and Fenchurch Street Station.
Or in someone's pocket of course...

So I have the the joy of queuing up for hours in Natwest to request another one!

Five working days at least they said...

Thats this Friday (14th November)...

So how come it arrived on Tuesday, with a motocycle courier, in a box!

Scared the life out of mum! She thought it was the Stig coming to give her a gift!

Anyway, Saturday was mostly spent in Southend, either having lunch in The Alex with Cat and Pam, or exploring the shops, as usual...

So, this 18th birthday! Met Holly at the indian, had a very filling buffet, then the drinking started :D:D
Ah Holly, so much to learn my dear...

Ending up just the SYSWB gang doing the dancing...WOOP!
We know how to enjoy ourselves!
Although I think we scared the DJ. Whats wrong with the Wurzels? and Bo Rhap!!

Never did play Bo Rhap :(

After a much needed lay-in the next day, and a roast, was time to head on home to Pompeyshire.

The journey home was a bit traumatic though. As soon as we reached West Ham, a coloured man walked onto the train. Unfortunately, the group of alcoholic football supporters on the train also noticed this and started shouting abuse at him. Luckily a group of security guards noticed this, and suddenly, a huge group of huge security guards appeared from nowhere, as if by magic, and bundled this group of men, threw them off the train and shouted the following...

"Please send an email to the manager of the station with witness statements so we can book these guys, we dont want to hold up the train!"

Then that was it!

I don't even know if the coloured guy even noticed these guys were abusing him... he just wandered into the next carriage with his iPod earphones in his ears.

Then,

when I got on the train at Waterloo, so did about 50 school kids. Oh dear Linda... the drama of these children are suffering. Who fancies who... little kids fighting each other... death threats...
Was quite intense, and I wasn't even anywhere near Essex...

I think that was quite enough for one weekend!

10 Hours in Pompey...

From Monday morning until the following Monday...
Monday until Thursday was spent in the magical land of Cambridge, as I was sent there for work. Got to stay in a nice hotel, have some nice meals, all paid for by the company of course! Must have put on a stone at least.
Nice restaurants in Cambridge include Alimentos and The Vault...very very nice :D
Also attempted to go to the firework display at Midsommer Common, but we got there about 13 mins after the display started. So we [my colleague and myself] only saw about 2 mins of the display. But what we saw was nice :D
Was a huge display, and the whole of Cambridge seemed to come to a stand still. Masses of people...funfair, huge bonfire...usual thing really.
But the strange thing was I bumped into a fellow member of a society from Guildford, who now works in Cambridge...strraaaanngeeee, must have been thousands of people there!!!
Next time I go to Cambridge though, I want to go to the park...
I want to have a picnic...
I want to have lunch on Christ's Pieces...Yes...

Its the name of a park in Cambridge....you gotta love em :P
Its only Friday at the moment, so will update the post once my weekend of Guildford/Essex wonderment is over!

Sunday 2 November 2008

Pompey Pompey Pompey...

Well last weekend I actually spent the majority of the weekend in Portsmouth (apart from Friday night, when I was strutting my stuff in the G.town).
Saturday was spent doing much needed stuff, shopping, cleaning, more shopping, then more cleaning.
Sunday I was up at stupid-o-clock and walked for 45 mins in the pouring rain to be a first aider at the Great South Run. Not run it...don't be silly...it's 10K!!
I have trouble running round the block...
Which brings me nicely onto my doctors appointment! You're now reading the script of a suspected asthmatic...and I have a lovely blue inhaler to use in case my chest tightens up again. I also get to measure my peak flow twice a day, which is always a barrel of laughs. The inhaler does help though. I can manage to get 400mL/min before, and 450-470mL/min after the inhaler...woop!
Still trying my hardest to reach 500mL/min :(
This weekend sees 1 year of my relationship with James, so he came down to celebrate. Friday night we went out to Gunwharf Quays to catch the end of the fireworks, have a meal Frankie and Bennies with my housemate and a fellow placement student at work, and then we went onto a club after! Was great fun being the only ones sad enough to go to a firework display in halloween costumes....haha!
Saturday, had a really nice day, drunk waaaay too much wine (and am suffering for it today) and had a lovely meal!
Well I'm off to pack my fabulous new holdall, with wheels!! As I'm off to Cambridge for 4 days :D
Ta ta!
